The team at Incitec Pivot Fertilisers (IPF) will tonight be cheering on Australian Women’s National Basketball League’s (WNBL) Townsville Fire as they chase back-to-back championships.

IPF has been a major partner of the Townsville Fire since 2020 and this year also sponsored an individual player, Courtney Woods. Woods has had an impressive season achieving multiple Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and rounding off the regular season winning the National WNBL Community Award.

“We are delighted and very proud to be involved in a major regional sporting team whose values align closely with ours and, like us, is committed to the north Queensland community,” IPF Queensland Regional Operations Manager, Ray Gofton said.

“Townsville Fire are an incredibly successful regional team and our team at IPF are some of their biggest fans. Tonight we will be cheering them on to another win and a shot at back to back championships.”

Townsville Fire is involved in community initiatives through the Fire Foundation, including school and youth engagement programs, community camps and the Fire Academy which works to develop local talent beyond just basketball.

“The Fire is a community-minded organisation, and their focus on diversity, youth engagement and pride for the Townsville region made them a natural fit for IPF to support,” Mr Gofton said.

IPF’s partnership with the Fire includes IPF logos and branding on Fire uniforms and courtside at The Fire Pit, Townsville Fire’s state-of-the-art venue at the Townsville Entertainment Centre.

IPF is also collaborating with Townsville Fire to develop and deliver a range of community events focused on youth engagement and diversity.

The Townsville Fire is the most successful female sporting team in northern Australia having won four WNBL championships and has become a nationally recognised brand.
